Bennie
Creek Trail
Back

Other Hiking Trails
The Bennie Creek trail is
located 6.6 miles up Payson Canyon. This is a great day hike for the
whole family. The trail is 3 miles to Loafer Mountain summit trail. At
this point you could continue another 5 miles to the summit or take the
other fork another 1 mile which would put you back on the Mount Nebo
Scenic Highway. We turned around at this point and headed back down the
mountain. The trail offers some fairly steep
sections, flat meadows, and a few switch backs. The bottom started out in
the junipers and as we climbed higher we found ourselves in beautiful
groves of quaken aspen and pine trees. Approx 1 mile up the trail there is
an overlook, which gave us a view of the canyon below.

Approx
1 1/2 miles we came to the switch backs, this is where we decided to kick
back and have some lunch.

As
we continued up the trail we found ourselves in thick groves of trees on
both sides. This to me was the best part of the trail. We had a light rain
falling while on the trail. As we made our way through the trees we
could smell the fresh pine scent. There is nothing like the smell of a
forest after a rain storm.

Mountain
biking on this trail is very popular as is horse back riding. We actually
ran it a very friendly couple who were riding their horses up the trail
for the day. Remember to always respect others on the trail and step aside
to let the horses and mountain bikers go by.

Directions - Take I-15 to Payson. When you
exit the freeway this will put you on main street. Head up main until you
reach 100 North. Turn left on 100 North. Stay on 100 North until you reach
600 East. 600 East will take you to the mouth of Payson Canyon. The trail
is then 6.6 miles from the mouth of the canyon.
