Easter
weekend 2003 the family, friends and I decided to take a day and go
to Jericho Sand
Dunes. This was a brave call considering there was
expected to be 10,000 + visitors in the park that weekend. Despite the
amount of people we managed to get a nice picnic spot at White
Sands, on the north end of the park. We chose White Sands
because most of the visitors would be staying at Sand Mountain. Also
this is a good place to take the kids as they offer fenced in play
areas where no motorized vehicles are allowed. Also the White Sands
area is a little less CRAZY then Sand Mountain, for us old people
who just want to ride some dunes and go home with all limbs
attached.

The
weather was a little cold and the dunes were a little wet from a
rain storm the night before. This made some of those bigger hills
easier to climb. We spent the day riding
the White Sands area and had are selves a nice barbeque. While
taking a break we couldn't help but notice that life flight flew over
us three times. We could hardly believe that Sand Mountain
was that crazy. Curious we decided to drive over to Sand Mountain
before making are way back home.

Upon
arriving at Sand Mountain we couldn't help but notice that it looked
like the state fair. They had food stands, t-shirt stands, and it
was wall to wall people. We were making are way through the horse shoe
loop to check out some of the festivities, when all of sudden I felt
a small thump come from the back of my four wheeler trailer.
Looking in my rear view mirror I didn't see a truck or car behind,
so what hit me? All of sudden up comes this hand waving at
me. Someone on a four wheeler ran into the back of my trailer. Not
worried about the damage to my trailer I asked the driver if they
were ok. They said they were fine, laughed and pulled away. I decided
that Sand Mountain was to crazy for me and it was time to go home. Still had a
great time and can't wait until next year.
