Jordan River Parkway 126th South - Bangerter
Highway
This leg of the Jordan River Parkway is under construction, but
is almost complete. You are able to access from either the
north or south sides of 126th south, however the North side has
the improved parking lot, and will be the staging location upon
completion. You may also access this section off trail
from the road that takes you to the River Bend golf course off
of 1300 west, just park by the city pool, and head down the
trail that starts on the west, and swings around behind the
pool. If you use this access there is a hill with an 8% grade
that is about 200 yards long, and drops you into the river
bottoms so be prepared for that.
If you access the trail from the north parking lot, the mileage
is not marked until you reach the bridge were 126th runs
across. From this point the trail runs along the Jordan
River to the Bangerter Highway or 140 something. It is a 6
mile loop from the bridge to the highway and back. The
trail also heads to the north from the parking area but it
dead ends in a neighborhood approximately 1 mile out.
The south track
is a nice run, or walk, the first mile is surrounded by large
olive trees/bushes that shade the trail on both sides. You
will also see The River Bend Golf course off to the west for the
first mile. At this point you run into the wet lands
were there are a few large groupings of tall cat tails
that add to the scenery, before it opens up to dry fields,
and the usual Utah terrain. At the two and a quarter
mile mark you will find yourself at a nice hill, with a fairly steep
incline, however the back side is even steeper, and the hole
thing is about a half mile long. At the base of
this hill you are back into the over grown olive trees/bushes
that will again shade you for the last quarter mile depending
on the time of day you choose to run/walk/bike/blade.
This trail has a steady
flow of traffic, but it is far from crowded. I have
found it to be fairly peaceful but not desolate. Over
all I think this is a great little section of this trail with a
couple moderate, and one challenging incline to keep you on
your toes. Hopefully soon they will be able to complete
the north trail and connect it with other legs of the Jordan
River Parkway.
