Lake Mary is the second lake on the
Brighton Lakes Trail. You begin the hike from the Brighton Ski
Resort Parking lot. If you head to the south side of the lot, you
will see a jeep track that goes up the first hill. As you crest the
hill, you will see a foot track that continues through the pines.
Follow this up and you will reach an open area with a rock slide. If
you scramble up the slide, you will be on the ridge that comes out
west of the dam. By this time of year, the water level was lower
than an earlier hike up to the lakes. It was low enough that there
was actually a place that you could cross right in the middle of the
lake. My friend
brought his pack pole to try to hook some fish, while I hiked around
to take some fall shots. In view were Mt Millicent, Sunset Peak, and
Pioneer Peak.

After some catch and release fun, and some great photos, it was time to
head down. Because of the time crunch, we took the lakes trail down to
the resort parking lot. There are a lot of marked areas on this trail,
so you don't get lost. As we made are way down the trail we decide to
trail run the rest of the way to the car. Sometimes I hike for
invigorating exercise, sometimes I just want to get out, get the blood
flowing, and then relax in some untouched wilderness. This is a great
hike to do just that, and you may also hike to, and fish the upper lakes
if you would like. This is a great place you should visit. I know I will
return.
