Day Hike to Lower Bells Reservoir - Little Cottonwood Canyon

By Utah Outdoor Activities

The Bells Canyon trail head is located at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon approx ¼ mile from Wasatch Blvd. and the 9800 South intersection. The trail head allows parking for several vehicles and even has restrooms. This 20 minute hike offers fantastic views of the valley below, large granite boulders and of course the beautiful Lower Bells Reservoir. From the parking lot, the trail climbs immediately with several switch backs to the first ridge. From here you can see the trail meander its way through the brush and up the next ridge. As we made our way up the ridge the reservoir came into full view and you could immediately see the Cutthroat Trout surfacing for their next meal.

The trail encircles the entire reservoir so take some time to explore and find your own seclusion. On our visit the vegetation was bright green and the wild flowers were in full bloom. This trail is considered an easy hike making it great for the whole family to enjoy. The hike and the views are stunning and it always amazes me on how much beautiful outdoor recreation we have so close to our homes. The next time you’re wondering what to do, get out and enjoy this beautiful mountain range.
