Nebo Creek Utah Outdoor Activities
Nebo Creek is a small stream that begins its journey high up in the Mount Nebo Wilderness Area and makes its way to HWY 89, then merges with Thistle Creek. The turn off to Nebo Creek is located approx 13.5 miles from the Spanish Fork Canyon Thistle Junction. The road is a little deceiving as it appears your entering a private ranch, which is in fact true. The road is marked "Nebo Creek" with a small green street sign. Once you make the turn you must stay on the dirt road for 2.6 miles until you reach the Uinta National Forest boundary. Please Respect Private Property! Once you reach this boundary you will be in a nice quiet secluded canyon that offers primitive camping, and of course fishing on the Nebo Creek. The creek offers fishing opportunities for Rainbow and Brown Trout. The best methods that have work for us over the years is flipping small lures or letting your bait, Salmon Eggs or Worms drift into the deeper holes. This stream is relatively small most of the year so the secret is to sneak up to your hole and try not to let the fish see you. If your seen, move on to new hole.
Several areas on each side of the road have been widened for camping, some large enough to accommodate small RV's. Towards the top of the canyon the road will fork allowing you to cross the river. This road will lead you further into the forest for even more secluded primitive camping. Approx three years ago the lower portion of this canyon fell victim to a wild fire. Please use caution with open fires and of course always obey the current fire restrictions if any, or purchase the Quikfire and you will always have a save, portable campfire no matter your location or current fire restrictions. Nebo Creek is a great location for the whole family to enjoy fishing, camping, picnicking and more. There are no services in this canyon so please pack it in - pack it out. Bring water and always make sure you watch the weather as the road leading to this canyon can get muddy and treacherous.
