The center was built to provide a location
to house the animals that are rounded up each year by the BLM. The purpose of these round ups is to
thin out the herds and search for hurt or sick animals. The animals are
brought to the center cared for, immunized and looked after by trained
professionals. These animals are then put up for adoption, or relocated
to other BLM lands across Utah or other states.

Visitors are welcome to visit the center.
Bring the whole family to view the different species of Wild Horses. I
even learned something new on my visit. I have lived in Utah my whole
life and have always known about the Wild Horse population but never
knew that herds of Burros run free in several locations throughout the
state. There is always something new to learn about this great state if
you just get out and explore!

Driving Directions:
The Wild Horse and Burro Center is located in Butterfield Canyon, west
of Salt Lake City (126th South and 8605 West). Take I-15 South to exit
294 and head west for 11 miles. The center is at the base of the
mountains, past both Riverton and Herriman. An alternate route is taking
21st to 8400 West, heading south, through Magna on I-11.
