Thermo Hot Springs - Beaver County
Utah Outdoor Activities

Out in the middle of nowhere, at approximately 31 miles west of
Beaver, Utah, sits a hot spring called Thermo Hot Springs. At this
site sits a barely readable sign that talks about the history of
this particular area. Utah Outdoor Activities visited this
spring the last week of March. By no easy feat on our part, and with
a GPS satellite receiver, we were able to locate this small spring
in the middle of the desert.

The hot springs are about 50 feet in diameter and were
surrounded by a grassy area. The area around the springs is very
desolate with light gray clay dirt. The water actually still boils
from this location and you can see the clay boiling up with the
water. I am not sure the depth of the spring, but the ground we
stood on near the clay was soft and felt unstable. I would recommend
that you don't get too close to the edge of the water as you never
know how solid the ground is, and help is a long way off. The area
around the natural spring is not fenced or gated, so if you have
little children with you, be sure to watch them closely.

We felt the water with our hands, and it was hot enough
that you had to take your hand out immediately. The water from the
natural springs has been piped to three soaking tubs. The top
tub was at the time very hot and could use some cooling down before
soaking. Of course the middle tub was cooler and the very
large lower tub felt cold. On our visit none of these tubs
look too inviting as they were very dirty which would be expected
from a spring rarely visited and in such a desolate location.

The area around the spring is remote and open, so you
can imagine whoever discovered this spring felt pretty insecure not
knowing if there were more around in the area. Utah Outdoor
Activities enjoys exploring these remote areas of interest and it
makes you realize how many more exciting locations in Utah rarely
see a visitor. When traveling to desolate areas always be sure
you carry plenty of water, food and always travel with another
person, that way everyone comes home safe from a great day of
exploring.
