Jordanelle State Park

     Jordanelle Reservoir is located in a picturesque mountain setting near Heber City. The park offers an array of recreational opportunities near the Wasatch Front. Two state-operated facilities provide camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, water sports, swimming, hiking and mountain biking.

     Hailstone: Located on the west shore of the reservoir off U.S. Highway 40 at Exit 8, this area offers boating, water sports, year-round fishing, hiking, biking, camp service center and a children's playground. Facilities include three separate camping areas, modern rest rooms, showers, utility hookups, fish cleaning and sewage disposal stations, visitor center, sandy beaches, three group-use pavilions, 41 day-use cabanas, two mini-Laundromats, children's play area, two boat ramps (one ramp for personal watercraft), 80-slip marina with utility hookups, fuel dispensing, marina store, restaurant and miles of non-motorized trails. 

     Rock Cliff: Located on the Provo River two miles west of Francis on State Route 32, this area offers interpretive trails, walk-in camping, fishing, education programs and nature study. Facilities include the Nature Center, boardwalks, 50 walk-in camping sites, group-use area, modern rest rooms, showers and a small boat access ramp.  

     Perimeter Trail: Jordanelle Reservoir can be reached by the non-motorized Perimeter Trail connecting Hailstone and Rock Cliff. Access from outside Hailstone is by the county frontage road north of the Mayflower exit and parallel to US 40. Access from Rock Cliff is off the main park road. Vehicular access from Rock Cliff requires a day-use permit. A day-use permit is required for recreational use of the reservoir.

     Boating: A vessel launching and retrieval facility is at Hailstone. An eight-lane boat ramp is available for recreation vessel use with a separate three lane ramp for personal watercraft users. Limited access is available at Rock Cliff due to shallow water and lack of trailer parking. All Utah boating regulations are enforced. • Do not operate a vessel above a wakeless speed within 150 feet of another vessel or person in the water.

• A Coast Guard approved personal flotation device is required for each person aboard a vessel

• Boating safety is no accident. Be an informed operator.

     For safety reasons the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation imposes a 300-vessel carrying capacity on the reservoir at any one time. If the reservoir has reached capacity, please visit other boating parks in the area. Deer Creek and Rockport state parks offer fishing, sailing, wind surfing, swimming, boating and water skiing. Campers and golfers will enjoy Wasatch Mountain State Park with its 27-hole golf course.

     Fishing: Jordanelle Reservoir provides excellent fishing for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout and smallmouth bass. A population of brown trout, produced in the Provo River, is expanding in the reservoir. This mix of species provides an excellent sport fishery. Jordanelle Reservoir/Central Utah Project Jordanelle Reservoir and Dam are a vital link in the Central Utah Project. The project, planned and constructed by the USDI Bureau of Reclamation, is the largest water development project in Utah History. The BOR created approximately 100 acres of Jordanelle wetlands. Among habitat structuring for waterfowl and shorebird nesting sites, special consideration will be given to the sandhill crane and western spotted frog.

     Guidelines: Please observe these regulations to ensure that everyone's visit is pleasant:

• Accidents - Report all accidents or injuries to a park ranger.

• Bicycling - Bicycling is permitted on established public roads, parking areas and the Perimeter Trail. Please use marked bicycle routes. Bicycle riding is prohibited within the interior boardwalk of trail system at Rock Cliff. Please secure bicycles to racks provided.

• Camping - Camp in designated areas. There is no overflow camping, but camping usually is available at nearby state parks and the USDA Forest Service campgrounds. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days in a 30 day period. Check-out time is 2:00 p.m. Camping or overnight parking in parking areas, day use areas or any place other than a designated campground is not permitted.

• Firearms - Possession or use of firearms, traps or other devices capable of launching a projectile that can immobilize, injure or kill a person or animal, or damage property is prohibited unless the weapon or device is 1) unloaded and packed away to prevent its use, 2) being used for legal pursuit of wildlife or 3) being used by authorized enforcement officers in the performance of official duties.

• Fires - Fires are permitted in designated campgrounds with fire grates. Stand-up grills in picnic areas are for charcoal or small wood fires only. Please do not use any firewood from the park area as it is vital to wildlife habitat.

• Motorcycles - Motorcycles, motor scooters and motor bikes may be operated on park roads only. No off-road or trail travel is allowed. Operator must possess a valid driver license. Vehicles must display valid state license plates. Off-highway vehicle riding is not permitted in the park.

• Parking - Park only in authorized, asphalted spaces. Only two vehicles or a motor home plus a vehicle are allowed in a campsite.

• Pets - Pets are allowed in most Utah state parks but should be on a maximum six-foot leash. Seeing Eye dogs are the only animals admitted to park buildings. Pets are not permitted on developed beaches or in lakes and streams. Due to the sensitive nature of Rock Cliff Recreation Site, pets must remain on or within 15 feet of paved surfaces. Leashed pets are allowed on the Perimeter Trail, except during seasonal closure due to big game migration patterns. For safety and courtesy, please keep pets under control.

• Quiet Hours - 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Please no generators, loud audio devices or other noise disturbances during this time.

• Theft - Lock your vehicle and keep valuables out of sight. Report all thefts or acts of vandalism to a park ranger immediately.

• Trail use - The Perimeter Trail is a non-fee trail accessing Hailstone, Rock Cliff and other recreational areas. Remember to obtain a day-use permit to use the reservoir or any park facility.
