Snow Goose Festival Delta Utah

By Utah Outdoor Activities

Each February thousands of Snow Geese arrive in Delta, Utah on their northerly migration from the Imperial Valley of southern California.  They usually arrive in Delta around the 18th of February. The best time to view these beautiful birds is usually during the last week of February and the first week of March.  Each year around this time the Delta City Chamber of Commerce holds the Annual Snow Goose Festival.  This festival includes family fun for all ages and of course great views of the Snow Geese.  During this festival the DWR are on site to explain the migrations and habits of the Snow Goose.  Other activities include a 5K/10K walk/run, dinner and entertainment, children's games, concessions and more.

The birds spend most of the night on Gunnison Bend Reservoir and much of the day flying from the reservoir to the surrounding fields to feed.  If you don't find the birds on the reservoir watch the skies.  Take a drive around the surrounding farm lands and try to locate the birds.  However, if you're patient the birds will come back to the reservoir and one of the most spectacular sites is watching a large flock take off from the water or return.  The skies are full of white and the sounds of the Geese are awe inspiring.
