Ledgemere Picnic Area

Big Cottonwood Canyon is home to several picnic areas. From the electronic sign at the base of the canyon, travel 1.4 miles, and you will come to the Ledgemere Picnic Area. This area is popular for rock climbers and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the valley below.

The Ledgemere Picnic Area borders the Big Cottonwood Creek and offers 13 first-come-first- served picnic sites. Each site is equipped with a table, fire pit, and a BBQ grill, as well as the shade, the ambiance of the creek, and the beautiful surroundings, which are taken care of by Mother Nature.

There are numerous outdoor activities in and around the picnic area. Those with the proper gear and training can rock climb on the many ledges. Bring along your fishing pole and try your luck in the Big Cottonwood Creek. Small shiny lures such as the Panther Martin always seem to produce in most sections of this creek. Enjoy a scenic walk through the picnic site or just relax.

Ledgemere Picnic Area

Our visit to the Ledgemere Picnic Area was to do just that. We wanted to enjoy the relaxation of a campfire, cook cheesy potatoes and ham tin foil dinners, make s’mores, and just appreciate the surrounding beauty with the people we love.

If you need a break and are searching for a close, fun, affordable outdoor activity, load up the family and visit the Ledgemere Picnic Area. Be sure to plan accordingly because the area fills up fast, especially on the weekends. Weekdays after 4:00 pm seem to be popular as well. This area requires a daily use fee at the current rate of $8.00 (subject to change) per vehicle and up to 8 people per site. Additional vehicles require an additional $8.00. Additional parking is available across the canyon road.

Remember to leave your dogs home as they are not allowed anywhere in the canyon. Also, we recommend bringing your own firewood.
