Lost lake is located just off the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway in Utah’s Uinta Mountains. The lake sits at an elevation of 9,900 feet. Next to the lake is the Lost Creek Campground which offers 35 single-family sites, all with picnic tables, and campfire rings. Just across the highway is Lily Lake, Teapot Lake, as well as the Lily Lake Campground. Each of these recreational locations is within walking distance of each other. The peak season for outdoor activities is July thru September.

Available Activities:

Out of the three lakes, Lost Lake is the largest and offers many outdoor activities. The most popular activity of course is fishing. The lake holds a population of rainbow trout, brook trout, and tiger trout. We spent the day fishing in kayaks and hooked into several nice tiger trout. All fish were caught on a black mepps spinner and a gold jakes lure. Other activities include paddle boarding, canoeing, photography, sightseeing, and just relaxing.

Beat the Crowds

If you plan on visiting Lost Lake on the weekend, plan on arriving early as the parking lot will fill up fast. If the parking lot is full, there are a few pull outs along the highway. If you want the lake almost entirely to yourself, visit during the middle of the week, or during the none peak season.

Safety:

As with all high elevation locations watch the weather. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in this area during the summer months, and lightning is a real threat. Also, if you plan on recreating on the water in a Kayak, Canoe, Float Tube, or a Paddle Board, remember to wear your life jacket. The water at this elevation, even in the middle of the summer is cold. Remember, the temperature difference can be 20 + degrees cooler than in the lower elevations.
